Sex crimes plea gets Thousand Oaks man 10 years
A Thousand Oaks man who pled guilty to sex crimes involving children will spend 10 years in state prison. Police initially arrested the man last summer following an incident at a Thousand Oaks community pool.

Following the arrest, police seized the man’s computer equipment and discovered a cache of child pornography there. A judge released the man on bail but issued an arrest warrant after he failed to appear in court in April. Following his second arrest, the man pleaded guilty to three felony counts of lewd acts on a child. He also pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography.

Earlier this month, the judge sentenced the man to ten years and eight months in state prison. Following the completion of his sentence, he must register as a sex offender.

Thousand Oaks sex crimes lawyer

When you face sexual offense charges in Ventura County, hire an experienced sex crimes lawyer like Robert Helfend. Mr. Helfend has more than 30 years of experience in criminal defense and takes cases in Ventura County and throughout Southern California.

Many criminal defense attorneys won’t take sex crimes cases, especially when they involve child victims. Mr. Helfend doesn’t judge his clients based on the charges against them. Instead, he works hard to create an effective defense strategy.

A sex crimes conviction carries a host of consequences that continue long after you complete a jail sentence. In addition to lifetime registration, sex offenders can expect continuous “compliance checks,” Internet usage restrictions, difficulty finding employment and housing. Lifetime registration means that no matter where you go, your community will know you as a sex offender.

Even if you leave the State of California, your registration requirements will continue. Your new state will monitor your activity, just as California did. You cannot put a conviction for a sex offense behind you.

That’s why it’s important to have an experienced criminal defense attorney on your side. Your attorney will work with you to help you understand the impact of a conviction and devise effective defense strategies.
