DUI Death Leads To 5-year Prison Sentence
A 24-year-old Oxnard man will spend five years in prison for a DUI crash. The collision severely injured two passengers riding in the man’s car. About three months after the accident, one of the passengers died of his injuries.

According to Oxnard police, the man drove his car at a high rate of speed, then lost control of it. He collided with a tree and a brick retaining wall. The driver did not suffer serious injuries in the crash, but his passengers did. Earlier this year, the man pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also pleaded guilty to causing injury while driving drunk. The judge sentenced the man to five years in prison. He must also make restitution payments to his victims.

Oxnard DUI attorney

When you face charges for drunk driving, hire an experienced Ventura DUI attorney like Robert Helfend. Mr. Helfend has 35 years of experience exclusively in criminal defense. He takes drunk driving cases in Ventura County and throughout Southern California.

The number of drunk driving arrests in California has decreased over the last decade. This is likely due in part to better driver training and increased drunk driving penalties. Nonetheless, tens of thousands of Californians face drunk driving arrests every year.

Fortunately, most drunk driving arrests result in only misdemeanor charges. That’s not to say misdemeanors aren’t serious! Even with a misdemeanor drunk driving conviction, you begin to establish a history of drunk driving. This can come back to haunt you if police arrest you again for impaired driving.

In addition to the immediate suspension of your driver’s license, you can face jail time and fines. The judge can also order driving restrictions, an ignition interlock device, driver retraining and other sanctions.

Many people attempt to defend themselves when facing a DUI. This is a mistake! Your best defense will come from an experienced defense attorney who can help you navigate the court process.
