At least 11 people face DUI in Ventura County following checkpoint arrests last week. Police arrested six drivers in Oxnard, three in Simi Valley and two in Ventura. All drivers face DUI charges.

In Ventura, in addition to the two drunk driving arrests, police also issued 8 miscellaneous citations for other offenses. In Oxnard, police arrested 3 alcohol-impaired drivers and three drug-impaired drivers. They also issued 19 citations for various offenses and impounded four vehicles.

The phrase, “impaired driving” often indicates a drunk driver, but drugs can also impair a person’s driving abilities. In California, DUI laws don’t just cover alcohol offenses. Courts also apply them to any substance that impairs a person’s driving skills. The same sanctions can apply to marijuana or prescription drug use, even if you lawfully obtain the drug.
