DUI Arrest Leads To Weapons Charges
An Oxnard man arrested for DUI also faced weapons and drug charges. According to Oxnard police, they arrested a man after pulling over his vehicle. During the stop, officers noted that he appeared to be driving while intoxicated. They searched the vehicle, and discovered a loaded .22 caliber rifle with a high-capacity magazine. They also found cocaine in the vehicle.

Prosecutors initially charged the man with misdemeanor DUI, and possession of a controlled substance with a firearm. They also charged him with carrying a loaded firearm and a large capacity magazine. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, driving with a blood-alcohol content above 0.08% and giving false information to a police officer. Prosecutors dropped the other two charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of a controlled substance. Both of the dismissed charges were misdemeanors.

The judge sentenced the man to 36 months of probation and fines of nearly $3,500. If he does not successfully complete the terms of his probation, he will face jail time for his convictions.
