The former president of the Camarillo Fiesta and Street Fair is being investigated amid embezzlement allegations, following the publication of a letter by the Camarillo Acorn detailing the reasons behind the $24,000 theft. According to the letter, the theft was brought to the attention of the organization’s Board of Directors in late 2014, and they agreed not to press charges against the former president, provided that he repaid the embezzled funds.
Embezzlement investigation continues
The former president repaid about $21,000 immediately, and agreed to repay the remaining balance in monthly installments. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office began an investigation following publication of the letter last month. According to the District Attorney’s Office, the matter must be investigated because the Camarillo Fiesta Association receives public funding. Had the matter involved a private entity, the matter would not have merited investigation.
