Embezzlement from HOAs leads to prison
Embezzlement from HOAs leads to prison
A former CEO for a property management firm in Thousand Oaks was convicted earlier this year of embezzlement for misappropriating funds belonging to two Ventura County homeowners associations and was given a 12-year prison sentence. Kristin Davis, formerly of the Paradigm Management Group, was also ordered to make restitution payments of more than $2 million dollars to two HOAs and an insurance company.

Embezzlement conviction on just half of charges

In February, Davis was convicted of eight counts of grand theft, two counts of tax evasion, two counts of forgery, one count of insurance fraud and one count of failing to file a state income tax return. Davis was acquitted on two forgery counts and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on 10 counts. Davis was ordered to pay $1.2 million to the Big Sky Homeowners Association in Simi Valley, $908,000 to the Oak Park Calabasas Homeowners Association and $55,000 to the Travelers Insurance Company.

If you’ve been accused of a workplace crime, including embezzlement, grand theft, forgery or computer fraud, Ventura criminal defense attorney Robert Helfend is ready to help you build a successful criminal defense.

Embezzlement is a classic example of a non-violent offense. Despite the high dollar amounts that may be involved, prosecutors are sometimes willing to make agreements on behalf of non-violent offenders that don’t involve prison time, or involve less prison time than the law permits. Prosecutors understand that in crimes like embezzlement, the best way to restore the victim is to allow the defendant to be economically productive.

Mr. Helfend specializes exclusively in criminal defense matters and has more than 30 years of experience in defending clients in Ventura County and other Southern California jurisdictions.
