A Pittsburgh man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly throwing hard-boiled eggs at his girlfriend.

Easter is a holiday that’s celebrated by millions of people from across the world, with its focus being on the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead such as described in the New Testament occurring after three days after his crucifixion by the Romans. Of course, it’s also a time when families come together to paint and decorate hard-boiled eggs, allowing children to run around the yard in search of these colorful and festive accessories.

It was Easter as usual for one Pittsburgh couple, as 27-year-old Aaron Goempel and his girlfriend (whose name is undisclosed) were decorating eggs. However, things turned south when Goempel allegedly began tossing hard-boiled eggs at his girlfriend, prompting a call to the local police department and the young Brookline native’s subsequent arrest.

When police arrived at the Wareman Avenue apartment complex in response to a battery report, they found Goempel’s girlfriend with a puffy red and swollen right eye. She told the police officers that Goempel had cheated on her, and when she confronted him about it, he began hurling hard-boiled eggs at her. One of the eggs had apparently his her eye, leaving behind a noticeable bruise accompanied with swelling and inflammation.

Police went to the couple’s bedroom to try and make contact with Goempel only to notice the 27-year-old had barricaded the door using an exercise machine. When police were able to gain entry into the bedroom, Goempel reportedly began yelling racial slurs at the officers while attempting to grab a nearby sword.

The officers were able to subdue Goempel before he could access his sword, but Goempel managed to kick one of the officers in the groin while resisting arrest. Officers placed him handcuffs and hauled him off to the Allegheny County Jail where he spent the remainder of his Easter Sunday waiting arraignment.

This isn’t the first time Goembel has had a run in with the law. According to public arrest records, the Brookline native was arrested with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness stemming from a 2008 incident.

There’s been no word yet on whether Goembel has sought legal representation for his alleged egg-chunking Easter incident.
