A 21-year-old motorcyclist was arrested and charged with DUI following a crash that injured an elderly pedestrian and killing the victim’s pet dog.
According to police, Jonathan Deinhard was riding on a motorcycle in Thousand Oaks, when he lost control of the bike. Deinhard fell to the pavement, but the bike slid onto the sidewalk and hit a 74-year-old Thousand Oaks resident who was walking her dog. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital in critical condition. The woman’s dog died at the scene as the result of the crash.
Thousand Oaks DUI Lawyer
A DUI arrest can be scary, and with good reason. If you’ve been accused of causing an accident with injuries as the result of a DUI, you can face some serious consequences. As with all drunk driving cases, your license is immediately suspended as part of an administrative DMV process. Injury cases can result in prison sentences of up to 16 years, fines, restitution to the victim, a 5-year license suspension, driver retraining for a period of 18 or 30 months and other consequences.
Following the completion of an incarceration sentence, you could find it difficult to find gainful employment if your driver license is still suspended. That could complicate the completion of a restitution order.
