A Port Hueneme couple remain jailed on drug possession and other charges following a traffic stop.
Port Hueneme police initially stopped the couple’s car when they noticed that a 3-year-old child was not properly restrained. The driver initially supplied police with a false name. During the stop, police correctly identified the driver. They also discovered that he had several outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
Police then searched the female passenger and found narcotics concealed in her bag. She also had an outstanding arrest warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia. They arrested the couple and put the child into protective custody.
The male pleaded guilty to two of three felony charges, including child abuse and carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle. Additionally, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance. He pleaded not guilty to the remaining felony charge and four misdemeanors, and two of the five outstanding misdemeanor charges. Those include giving false information to a police officer and receiving stolen property. He returns to court on March 5 for sentencing. He is currently lodged in the Ventura County Jail without bail.
