Disney Cruise Worker Gets 15 Months for Embezzlement
A former Disney cruise ship employee will spend 15 months in jail for embezzlement. The employee, who is a Brazilian national, worked in a ship store and used gift cards to steal more than $250,000.

When investigators searched the man’s cabin, they found more than 200 Disney gift cards there. In addition, they also found a stolen watch and nearly $1,300 in cash. Authorities arrested the man when the ship docked in San Diego last October. The man also admitted to spending nearly $38,000 of the embezzled funds on a family vacation to Disney World. While on vacation, the man used the stolen gift cards to pay an $8,200 lodging bill. He also spent nearly $30,000 on food, beverages, merchandise and entertainment on the trip.

As part of a plea deal, he admitted to a single count of wire fraud. In addition to the 15-month jail term, the man must repay all of the stolen funds. Following the completion of his jail term, the man will be deported to Brazil. He could have faced as much as 20 years in jail on the wire fraud charge.
