The former president of the Camarillo Fiesta Association was arrested last week in connection with the alleged theft of $24,000 from the non-profit. Each year, the organization produces the Camarillo Fiesta & Street Fair.
Robert Capellini’s alleged embezzlement came to light after an anonymous letter was sent to Representative Julia Brownley, asking her to investigate the matter. By the time the letter was sent, Capellini had repaid nearly 90% of the money he had taken, and had made plans directly with the non-profit’s Board of Directors to repay the rest. Ventura County District Attorney Greg Totten decided to file charges against Capellini following an investigation of the incident, saying that his office held the only authority to determine whether a criminal matter is prosecuted.
