Four Camarillo men will face embezzlement charges in federal court in November, now that a federal judge has set a trial date. The trial date comes after the four men sought and received delays for various reasons.
The men, Jack Benjamin Hessiani, also known as Jack Herrera; James Manuel Herrera; Daniel Ayala-Mora; and Eduardo Josue Garcia are charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud, mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and fraudulently using debit cards.
According to federal prosecutors, the men registered fake companies, then used the identities of real individuals to file unemployment claims in their names. The benefits were loaded onto debit cards and mailed to post office boxes set up as part of the conspiracy. The individuals who participated in the scam were allowed to retain a portion of the benefits, and the four men kept the rest. When the benefits ran out, the men filed for extensions, which resulted in the theft of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded benefits.
