Thousand Oaks police arrest man for sex crimes
Thousand Oaks police arrest man for sex crimes
Thousand Oaks police arrested an Oak Park parolee last month for sex crimes, including possession of child pornography, annoying or molesting a minor, and sending sexually abusive materials to a minor.

According to police, Matthew Myers posed as a 17-year-old boy, and contacted a 15-year-old girl via the social media site Facebook. After conversing with the girl, he asked her for sexually explicit photos. He is also accused of contacting a 16-year-old boy and sending him sexually explicit photographs.

Myers is on parole for previous sexual assaults, and is monitored electronically. In September 2015, Thousand Oaks police, working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, developed information that Myers was engaging in behavior prohibited by the terms of his parole. They seized evidence from Myers’ computer that revealed his contact with at least a dozen minors.

Myers was arrested in Pasadena, and was held on a $1 million bail. Since he has committed a parole violation, he is not currently eligible for release on bail.

Convictions for sex crimes have consequences that will last long after you’ve been released from supervision. Registered sex offenders may find it difficult – if not impossible to find work and housing. A growing number of restrictions work against you, effectively eliminating your opportunity to re-enter society successfully.

Lifetime enrollment on the state’s sex offender registry – which is required following most convictions – works to exclude convicted sex offenders from most meaningful activities. Moving doesn’t help. Your California sex offender status will follow you wherever you go.

If you’re facing sex crimes charges, you need the immediate assistance of an aggressive, experienced sex crimes lawyer like Robert Helfend. Mr. Helfend takes the tough sex crimes cases that most criminal defense attorneys shy away from, and he will fight aggressively for your future in court.

Sex crimes arrest for couple in Camarillo
Sex crimes arrest for couple in Camarillo
Two adults were arrested at a Camarillo motel after police acted on an anonymous tip regarding a 15-year-old girl. Police obtained a search warrant and raided the motel room, which had been rented by the couple. According to police, the couple was charged with sex crimes related to human trafficking, child pornography, forcing a minor to commit a commercial sex act and pimping.

Simi Valley resident Jessica Stanley, and Thousand Oaks resident Robert McGraa were charged after undercover police contacted Stanley through anonymous ads she had placed on an online escort site. While making arrangements to meet, police say that Stanley made an explicit offer of sexual services to be performed by the 15-year-old victim. Stanley told the undercover officer that he could meet the girl at the motel after she finished her school day. Stanley would not provide the room number, but said she would provide the information after the undercover officer arrived at the motel for the arranged meeting.

After the undercover officer made contact with Stanley at the motel and ascertained the girl’s room number, a team of officers served the search warrant and arrested Stanley and McGraa. The girl was not arrested, and was provided with victims’ services through the District Attorney’s Office and through Child Protective Services of Ventura County.

Stanley and McGraa face as many as 20 years in prison if convicted on human trafficking charges.

Sex crimes convictions have long-lasting consequences. Most often, those convicted of sex crimes must register for life as sex offenders. That designation follows you wherever you go, even if you move out of state. Often, registered sex offenders cannot find gainful employment or suitable housing following their release from custody or supervision.

Having an experienced sex crimes attorney fighting for you in court is one of the smartest moves you can make if you’ve been arrested on suspicion of committing sexual offenses. Don’t risk your freedom and your future on an inexperienced sex crimes attorney.

A Santa Paula man with a history of sex crimes against children was again convicted of several felony charges, including three counts of lewd acts upon a child. The victim was under the age of 14. Alfonso Gonzalez, of Santa Paula, was convicted in Ventura County Superior Court last week for incidents that occurred in 2012 and 2013. Gonzalez was arrested for the crimes in 2013.

The relationship between Gonzalez and the victim was not disclosed, but the victim, who was about 10 when the crimes occurred, referred to Gonzalez as “Papa.” In addition to the felony convictions, Gonzalez was found guilty on 15 special allegations and was found to be a habitual sex offender. He faces up to 50 years in prison on the convictions. Gonzalez is currently lodged in the Ventura County Jail, awaiting sentencing on November 17.

Santa Paula sex crimes attorney

If you’re facing sexual assault charges in Santa Paula, sex crimes attorney Robert Helfend is ready to take your case. Sex crimes convictions are very serious, especially when they involve child victims. You could be facing a long sentence, designation as a habitual offender (if you have prior sex assault convictions), and lifetime sex offender registration.

In addition to incarceration and potential restitution, lifetime sex offender registration means that status will follow you wherever you go. Moving out of the area, or moving out of state will simply transfer the sex offender registration requirement to your new state. You cannot restart your life and you cannot put a sex crimes conviction behind you, regardless of the circumstances of your case.

If you’re facing sex crimes charges, do not attempt to defend yourself and do not rely on a public defender to stand up for your rights in court. A Moorpark man was arrested for sex crimes including possession of child pornography, burglary and using a concealed camera to record another person. Sergio Salgado, 53, is accused of planting a secret video camera in a neighbor’s bathroom during a social gathering.

According to police, the camera captured guests in various stages of undress. Salgado, a neighbor of the victims, was invited to a child’s birthday party at the victims’ home. While there, he set up the recording device. Police say that the camera captured 14 people, including young children, teens and adults, and was rolling when Salgado planted the camera.

The homeowner’s daughter found the camera at the end of the party, and told her mother, who notified the police. The homeowner said that she and her family have known Salgado for more than 20 years.

An experienced Ventura sex crimes lawyer

Child pornography charges are difficult to defend against, so your best strategy is to work with an experienced sex crimes lawyer like Robert Helfend. Whether you’ve been accused of production, possession or transmission of child pornography, you need to know that the charges against you are incredibly serious. You could be tried in federal court or state court, and if convicted, you could be required to pay significant fines, serve a lengthy prison sentence and register as a sex offender, often for the rest of your life.

Child victims arouse the sympathy of judges and juries, no matter what the crime involves. When a crime involves the sexual exploitation of a child, you’ll be treated harshly if you’re convicted. If you’re sentenced to jail time, upon your release, you could find it difficult to land gainful employment or suitable housing, and you’ll be required to register as a sex offender, no matter which jurisdiction you live in.

Many defense attorneys avoid taking defense cases involving child victims, but Mr. Helfend has extensive experience as a sex crimes lawyer. He will work closely with you to create a solid defense strategy, and work toward the best possible resolution for your case.

Mr. Helfend does not judge his clients based upon what they’ve been charged with, even when the victim is a child. Don’t risk your freedom by working with an inexperienced sex crimes lawyer, or by assuming there’s nothing you can do to improve your circumstances.

Simi Valley Man Convicted of Sextortion
Simi Valley Man Convicted of Sextortion
A Simi Valley man pleaded guilty to extortion, sending harmful matter to seduce a minor and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. Corey Ackerman, 27, was arrested last September following a lengthy “sextortion” investigation. Earlier in 2015, he was sentenced to five years of probation for extortion, possession of child pornography, and blackmail.

Second sextortion conviction came with prison term

Ackerman came to the attention of police as early as 2014. Following his first sextortion conviction, a number of minors came forward to tell police that Ackerman had contacted them through social media, and attempted to engage in sexual activity with them. According to the victims, Ackerman told the victims that he had pornographic pictures of them and that he would delete them only if they agreed to have sex with him. The victims were between the ages of 12 and 17 at the time of Ackerman’s contact. Upon his second conviction, Ackerman was given a 6 year prison sentence and was ordered to pay restitution to the victims.

Police arrested a Moorpark man and a Simi Valley man, both for failing to register as sex offenders. Mr. Helfend will work hard to protect your rights within the judicial process. At the same time, he will work to get the charges against you reduced or dropped altogether.

Convictions on sex offenses like child pornography create a long trail of consequences that you’ll be dealing with, often for the remainder of your life. In addition to incarceration, upon release, you’ll be required to register as a sex offender, no matter where you go – and often for the rest of your life. Even if you leave the state following your release, California’s sex offender registration requirements go right along with you. You’ll be required to register as a sex offender in your new location.

Registration on any state’s sex offender registry will make it difficult to find appropriate housing and employment, and you may have other restrictions involving where you live, what kind of work you can perform, and even whether you can have access to a computer.

Sexual Assault Charge For Ventura Man
Sexual Assault Charge For Ventura Man
A 41-year old Ventura man was arrested and charged with sexual assault of a minor. Edward Joseph Rosales was accused of rape by force, lewd conduct with a child under 14 and displaying harmful matter to a minor. Deputies executed search warrants at Rosales’ place of business, Ventura Photographix, as well as his home. He was taken into custody at that time.

Sexual assault victim knew defendant

Police were notified of the assault on December 9, but did not say when or where the assault took place. The victim was acquainted with Rosales from modeling work she had performed for him previously. Rosales was booked into the Ventura County Jail and was given a $750,000 bond.

If you’ve been arrested for sexual assault, you should know that the courts view sexual assault as an extremely serious offense. Prosecutors and judges want to make an example of those who are convicted of sexual assault, and they want to assign as much prison time as possible to those who are convicted. Without an experienced criminal defense attorney by your side, you risk facing the stiffest possible sentence without receiving due consideration of the circumstances of your case.

Mr. Helfend has more than 30 years of experience as a criminal defense lawyer and he knows that even the most heinous allegations of sexual assault against a minor don’t mean that a defendant is guilty. Mr. Helfend forces prosecutors to prove their case beyond any reasonable doubt, because he fights hard for his clients in court.

Prosecutors work especially hard to get convictions against adults who commit crimes against children. They are often under enormous pressure from parents and the community to convict a defendant, even when the evidence doesn’t support the charges. That’s why it’s critical to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney when you’ve been accused of sexual assault involving a minor. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help you disprove false accusations, and get the charges against you reduced or dropped altogether.

Don’t wait! Contact Robert Helfend or call toll-free at (800) 834-6434, (805) 273-5611, (310) 456-3317 or (818) 591-2809 for an immediate consultation on your Ventura County sexual assault case.
